Observed on Kr̥ṣṇa-Caturdaśī tithi of every (lunar) month (Sāṅgavaḥ/paraviddha).

Anadhyayana on account of chaturdaśī. Several tithis in a month are nitya-anadhyayana days, including prathamā, aṣṭamī, chaturdaśī, amāvāsyā and pūrṇimā. Manu has said that performing adhyayana on these days destroys the Guru (Amavasya), Shishya (Chaturdashi) and the vīrya of the brahma (vēda) itself (Ashtami/Purnima). Similarly, Jabali Rishi has said that Adhyayana on prathama hurts the buddhi while adhyayana on chaturdaśī hurts the brahma (vēda) itself!

अतिपत्त नायऩ्मार् (४२) गुरुपूजै

Observed on Āśrēṣā nakshatra of Siṁhaḥ (sidereal solar) month (Prātaḥ/paraviddha).

Between the 6th and 9th centuries, in South India, there existed 63 ardent devotees of Lord Shiva, collectively known as the Nayanmars. These devout individuals, hailing from various walks of life including potters, fishermen, farmers, merchants, priests, hunters, and washermen, created devotional songs still sung by followers around the globe. Among these Nayanmars, Appar, Sambandar, and Sundarar, known for their Thevaram hymns, along with Manikkavasagar, are distinguished as the Samayacharyas or the ‘The Four’ (nālvar) revered teachers of the faith. They were instrumental in promoting the Shaiva Siddhanta philosophy and culture, effectively challenging the spread of Jainism and Buddhism. Their teachings centered around the concept that Shiva embodies love, and that embracing love for all beings and existence is essential in connecting with Shiva, the Supreme Being.

Atipattar, the 42nd of the Nayanmars was born into a fisherman’s family in Nulaipadi, near Nagapattinam. He devoutly followed a unique ritual: daily, he would release one fish from his catch as an offering to Lord Shiva. His dedication caught the attention of the divine, who sought to showcase his unwavering faith to the world.

For several days in a row, the fisherman found himself catching only a single fish each day. Undeterred by the prospect of going hungry, he faithfully released the lone fish back into the water, dedicating the act to Lord Shiva. On one remarkable day, his catch consisted of just one fish again, but this time it was a golden fish. Despite the extraordinary nature of this find and the temptation it might have presented, he adhered to his vow and released the golden fish as an offering to the Lord.

Moved by his steadfast devotion, Lord Shiva manifested before the humble, uneducated fisherman, bestowing upon him divine blessings for his unyielding devotion and sacrifice.

चिङ्ग्गीज़ो मृतः #७९७

Event occured on 1227-09-01 (gregorian). Julian date was converted to Gregorian in this reckoning.

On this, 12th day of the 7th Mongol lunar month, died the greatest of the military leaders of all times Chingiz Kha’Khan. Born Temujin, he literally rose from rags after his father was killed by Tatars, and was elected Kha’Khan in 1206 after being tied down in Mongolian tribal wars till age 40. He destroyed in a span of 21 years the hegemony of China and Islam, two of the most dangerous powers in human history. He proclaimed the sacred law (yasag) like father Manu. Most importantly, he became the most prolific progenitor of Central Asia. He transcends cultural boundaries and had great impact on the world (including Hindus). He is considered to be of divine nature by Mongols.

Events

At the brink of bringing about the collapse of the Tangut and Chin empires, while hunting an ibex the Khan fell from his horse, got likely got septicemia and died. His final words:

“A jade stone is truly without crust,
polished dagger has no dirt on it,
a man born to life is not deathless,
he must go without home, without a resting placing.

The glory of a deed is in its completion.
Firm and unbending is he who keeps a plighted word faithfully.
Follow not the will of another and good will of many will be yours.

A funerary chant composed by Kiluken read:

O Lion of the great god Tengri, Boddhisatva on Earth, numerous clans of your Mongol nation are wailing for you.

The Tiruchendur Brahmotsavam of Avani each year is very special. The festival is conducted for twelve days. This marks the fourth day of the festival, when both Subrahmanya and Ambal are taken out in procession on an elephant vāhanam.
